If you love historic Philly architecture
Despite this neighborhood’s elegance, the history of Fitler Square is quite interesting. The area has been a shipping, shipbuilding, and brick-making hub since the city's earliest days, in the 19th century. By the 1870s, business started to decline and the neighborhood became more residential, attracting some of the city’s most prominent citizens. Today, Fitler Square is recognized as an authentic Philadelphia neighborhood with charming Colonial-style rowhomes featuring tall wooden doors and elegantly carved concrete and stone framing around the windows and roofline. In this neighborhood, you’ll also find Trinity Memorial Church, a beautiful landmark with its large stone walls and intricate gothic interior decoration, sitting quietly across from dark brick houses. At Fitler Square park, is the Victorian-era water fountain, around which locals sit, relax and enjoy the gushing sounds of the water. Some other charming historic landmarks include the three bronze turtles, grizzly bear and ram sculptures that the children of Fitler Square can’t seem to get enough of.
