About Brewerytown
This neighborhood was in fact the first in the nation to introduce beer and at its peak had nearly 700 active breweries making delicious beer. These days, Brewerytown still offers great beer spots, amazing food, vibrant entertainment and plenty of shops along Girard Avenue. Having Center City nearby paired with a diverse, friendly community attracts many people to settle down in this charming neighborhood.

Where Is Brewerytown, Philadelphia?
Philadelphia's Brewerytown is located in North Philadelphia and runs from the Schuylkill River's eastern bank to 25th Street, bounded by Cecil B. Moore Avenue to the north and Parrish Street to the south. Surrounding neighborhoods include Fairmont and Art Museum, Sharswood and Strawberry Mansion.

Residents can enjoy the walkable streets of Brewerytown allowing them to access Fairmont and the Schuylkill River, as well as shops, restaurants and grocery stores. Brewerytown also has great transit. Buses Routes 7, 48, and 49 run through North 29th Street between the Strawberry Mansion and Fairmount neighborhoods and cross the Benjamin Franklin Parkway to and from Center City. The 15 connects to the Broad Street subway line.

In Brewerytown find crunchy salads, tasty beer, creamy icecreams, freshly-ground coffee and all kinds of exotic dishes, most of which exist on the sides of Girard Avenue. Head to Rybrew, where you can taste one (or more) of the hundreds of beers they offer with possibly the best sandwich you’ve ever had. For a traditional Philly cheesesteak, check out Spot Gourmet Burgers. Living by their name, their burgers are delicious too! Taste authentic Ethiopian food at the popular Ethiopian Dive Bar, ERA. Here, you can enjoy a game of pool while indulging in traditional Ethiopian food and affordable drinks. Philadelphia's first and only non-profit coffee shop, The Monkey and The Elephant serves excellent coffee and a worthy cause. Their mission is to assist and employ young adults who have been in foster care. And although most of the breweries that gave Brewerytown its name have since shut down, you can still taste a wide range of craft beer, freshly brewed at Crime and Punishment. From hazy double IPA to rich dessert stouts, there’s something for everyone.

If you love German architecture
As a thriving German settlement by the early twentieth century, Brewerytown holds a strong German heritage. Famous architect Otto Wolf oversaw the construction of over 60 structures in the area, incorporating a German flavor to saloons and breweries, bringing a distinct feel to the streets. Remnants of the 1800s are still observable today as you drive past the converted buildings of the brilliant architect. Bergdoll Brewing and F.A. Poth Brewing are just two of the structures he created that are still standing, where you can experience German-style buildings at their finest. Paired with tree-lined streets and a breathtaking view of the Schuyllkill river, Brewerytown has incredible architecture and landscaping that many will love.

If you love murals and street art, Brewerytown will be a fun place for you. Wander around and check out the mural on Girard and 31st by the community garden. Next, head to the old Red Bell Brewery, where you’ll find even more street art that will make any creative’s heart dance. Art lovers can also visit the many art galleries in the neighborhood including Philadelphia’s very first NFT gallery! Music enthusiasts, we’ve got you covered as well. Brewerytown Beats is a tiny vinyl shop that offers an extensive assortment of vinyl. This shop specializes in funk, soul, and hip-hop music, selling old, vintage, and rare records as well as cassettes. Jazz lovers will love knowing that John Coltrane, a famous jazz musician, lived in Brewerytown, on North 33rd Street. His house is now considered a historical landmark.
