Where Is Rittenhouse, Philadelphia?

Rittenhouse is a charming area located in the heart of Philadelphia’s downtown, just a short walk from the Pennsylvania Convention Center. It is renowned for its green spaces, upscale shopping, charming brownstones, and alfresco dining. Rittenhouse runs east to west from Broad Street to the Schuylkill River Banks, spanning South Walnut St to Pine St from north to south and 15th St to 24th St from east to west.

Living In Rittenhouse

Getting to and from Rittenhouse is easy. With plenty of sidewalk space, it’s a dream for those who love walking their dogs and moving around on foot.

The neighborhood is also easily accessible via public transport. All SEPTA Regional Rail lines stop at Suburban Station, only six blocks north and east of Rittenhouse Square.
The SEPTA 9, 12, 21, and 42 buses operate along Walnut Street east of the Square. The 17 bus runs north on 20th Street and south on 19th Street, the 2 bus runs north on 16th Street and south on 17th Street, and the 2 runs north on 17th Street and south on 17th Street. The trolleys of the Subway-Surface Trolley Lines stop at 19th and Market Streets two blocks north of the Square. The Broad Street subway at the Walnut-Locust station is four blocks east.

The neighborhood is home to vibrant parks like Rittenhouse Square, gardens, and cultural institutions as well as plenty of fashionable restaurants, bars, and cafes. In the warmer months, you’ll find a variety of outdoor activities, including yoga, festivals, concerts, and craft fairs.

In the winter, Rittenhouse Square hosts outdoor ice skating, an outdoor fireplace, and outdoor bars and restaurants. Rittenhouse Square’s newly renovated Wisteria Tunnel is especially popular during the spring and summer months. Rittenhouse Square is one of the most picturesque places in the city. It is flanked by huge, stately mansions and is popular among tourists. Here you will find a quiet park, flower gardens, and a huge fountain. A stroll through the neighborhood often leads to friendly conversations with residents and the beginning of new friendships.

Rittenhouse is also home to many cultural institutions, including the Curtis Institute of Music, Philadelphia Youth Orchestra, the Ethical Society and the Philadelphia Art Alliance. The neighborhood hosts many music and food festivals in different neighborhoods throughout the year, as well as the Rittenhouse Square Fashion Show every year in September.
